Mexico City, Mexico — During the previous year, the total amount of foreign direct investment in tourism across Mexico exceeded $3.4 billion. The number represents an important milestone in the country’s history.

The figure for Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism (IEDT) in 2022 was reported by Miguel Torruco Marqués, who is the Secretary of Tourism for the Mexican government. He stated that this figure exceeded Mexico’s high figures for 2017 and 2019.

He mentioned that in 2022, the IEDT (Inversión Extranjera Directa Turistica) would be equivalent to 9.8% of the national foreign investment. Also, he said that the most investment went to Baja California Sur, Nayarit, San Luis Potosi, Mexico City, and Yucatán.

He also stated that the United States, Canada, and France were the top three countries that invested the most money, with the United States accounting for 84.1% of the total, Canada accounting for 21% of the total, and France accounting for 6.8% of the total. Colombia and Germany were two of the other countries that participated in the investment.

Torruco Marqués says that this shows how much faith Mexico has in international investors and businessmen who help improve the tourism infrastructure in different parts of the country.
