Q.R. Riviera Maya — According to Quintana Roo’s governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, the state continues to draw more frequent flights and new airline routes.
One of Mexico’s major airlines, Volaris, has reportedly announced an increase in the frequency of five domestic flights. The Bajo-Cancun route will go from 13 to 17 weekly frequencies this summer, while the Monterrey-Cancun route will go from 24 to 35 weekly frequencies.
The number of weekly flights from Guadalajara to Cancun will rise from 39 to 44, while the number of weekly flights from Puebla to Cancun will increase from 12 to 14. Last but not least, Volaris will increase the number of regular flights between Querétaro and Cancun from 9 to 14.
A new Los Cabos-Cancun route, announced by Viva Aerobus, will launch on May 18 with a daily flight from Monday to Saturday. Due to operational changes, the frequency of the Toluca-Cancun flight will also increase from two to three frequencies.
In addition, Viva Aerobus will resume service on the Monterrey-Cozumel route with two frequencies per week on Fridays and Mondays for the summer season. The Quito-Cancun route will begin operating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on June 16.
TAG Airlines has also expressed interest in starting a route from Guatemala to Chetumal, and a new airline, Aerus, plans to launch a route from Chetumal to Cancun, according to the State Secretary of Tourism (Sedetur), which is led by Bernardo Cueto.
Along with a new direct flight from Atlanta to Cozumel, Delta Airlines increased the number of flights from its major U.S. hubs to Cancun on March 17.
Beginning on March 26, Aeroméxico began offering daily service between Mexico City and Cozumel.
