In the Mayan Train section 5 South projects, where the federal work is outlined to enter its final phase of construction and be delivered this year, the laying of sleepers and ballast has started.
Workers who were contacted from the intersection of sections 5 South and 5 North reported that they began laying blocks on basalt stone this month, which can now be seen as a railroad track. This infrastructure marks the path for the passenger cars of the Mayan Train, and is visible at the entrance to the sanitary landfill, approximately 12 kilometers from the center of Playa del Carmen.
The clearing for section 5 of the Mayan Train project began in February 2022, and is currently the most advanced point in the federal project, carried out by employees of Mexican business Ingenieros Civiles y Asociados (ICA). President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently announced that the first locomotive will arrive in Quintana Roo in July 2023, and the project, consisting of four sections in Quintana Roo (4, 5, 6, and 7), will be launched in December.
Concurrently, land acquisitions continue for the train, with a recent announcement of a number of properties in various municipalities, including Solidaridad. A total of 352,423 square meters will enter federal domain for the passage of the Mayan Train, with ten properties in Solidaridad, six in Bacalar, and two in Escárcega located in the state of Campeche.
