According to projections based on bookings made for the upcoming Holy Week, hoteliers in the Mexican Caribbean anticipate hotel occupancy rates to surpass 95 percent.

Quintana Roo is one of the most attractive destinations for visitors, with 130,123 rooms available in 1,149 hotels.

The presidents of the Cancun hotel associations, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, and of Riviera Maya, Toni Chaves, who together represent more than 70 percent of the room supply in the region, foresee the biggest spike between March 24 and 30.

For the 2023 season, the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat reported that 1.3 million tourists were welcomed during Holy Week. This was an increase of 5 percent compared to 2022. A similar upswing is expected this year, according to the hotel managers’ forecasts.

“We have good prospects of maintaining this year occupancy rate we have seen since the beginning of the year, as shown by the state’s hotels and airports,” stated the leaders of the hotel sector.

Useful tips for vacations in the Mexican Caribbean during busy easter season

Travelers looking for sun, beach, and sea flock to the Mexican Caribbean during Easter. It does, however, take some forethought and planning to locate less busy locations in this area during the holiday season.

Although a lot of people visit well-known locations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, there are other ways to take in the splendor of the Mexican Caribbean without having to deal with the crowds.

During the busy Easter season, consider these helpful vacation tips:

  • Select Off-Peak Travel Dates: If your schedule permits, think about heading in ahead of the busy Easter week or staying later. While you may still take advantage of the nice weather and sights, the days before and after Easter can provide a more sedate experience.
  • Investigate Lesser-Known Locations: Many travelers miss the undiscovered treasures scattered over the Mexican Caribbean. Amazing natural beauty may be found away from the people in locations like Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Bacalar, Isla Holbox, and Costa Maya. Bacalar is renowned for its seven-color lagoon, Sian Ka’an for its unspoiled wildness, and Holbox for its gorgeous beaches and laid-back atmosphere.
  • Reserve Rooms Early: If you’re looking for a more sedate stay, consider boutique hotels, eco-lodges, or private villas that are not close to the major tourist attractions. Such accommodations can provide a private haven away from the bustle, enabling a more customized and restful vacation.
  • Explore Off the Beaten Path: You can discover peace of mind by visiting sights that are not on the normal path, even in well-traveled areas. Take into account guided tours that visit lesser-known cenotes, snorkeling locations distant from the main reefs, or tours that explore the local culture in smaller towns.
