Q.R.—Cancun The Cancun, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres Hotel Association reported 85 percent hotel occupancy on December 29. The Association recorded 84.7 percent hotel occupancy in Cancun and 77.2 percent in Puerto Morelos.
Costa Mujeres hotels averaged 81.2 percent occupancy. The Association’s 214 hotels had such averages.
The last weekend of the year was expected to be packed, especially downtown Cancun hotels.
Rebeca Bravo, head of the Downtown Hotel Committee, said they averaged 70% occupancy in December and 75% during the New Year weekend.
“Tourism is mixed. Bravo stated their occupancy rates are greater than in 2019 before the epidemic.
She said hotels on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and the cloverleaf at Cancun International Airport had not been affected by city renovation initiatives. Actually, she said.
“The airport-side hotels, exactly because of all this theme of refurbishment, we have noticed that they have extremely significant mobility, especially during the final night that travellers spend here to prevent flight setbacks,” she added.
Bravo said they expect 90 percent occupancy in the first week of 2023 and 65 percent in the second week, when most people return to work.
