The Tulum International Airport expansion will double its flight capacity starting this November, bringing an estimated 1.4 million passengers to the region. This growth positions Tulum as a key hub for international tourism and creates new economic opportunities in the Riviera Maya.

New Routes Fuel the Tulum International Airport Expansion

Tayde Mandujano from Tulum Airport’s Commercial and Services team explains that the added flight routes and increased frequency will make travel to Tulum even easier for international visitors. The winter season brings an array of new routes that support the Tulum International Airport expansion:

  • WestJet: Flights from Calgary and Toronto starting November 9
  • Sunwing: Flights from Montreal beginning December 2
  • Volaris: Daily service from Guadalajara starting December 5
  • Condor: Frankfurt on December 12
  • Air Transat: Montreal and Quebec routes beginning December 19
  • Avianca: Bogotá flights starting December 10

These new routes strengthen connectivity, enhancing Tulum’s global appeal and supporting the airport’s growing role.

Economic Opportunities from the Tulum International Airport Expansion

The airport’s expansion further establishes Tulum’s reputation as a top Mexican destination, bringing fresh economic opportunities for local businesses and residents. The new routes will increase tourism, drive real estate demand, and create job growth throughout the region.

New Airport Hotel to Open in December

Adding to the airport’s convenience, a 132-room hotel managed by Sedena will open by mid-December. This facility will serve both leisure and business travelers, making the airport even more appealing to visitors.

Passenger Traffic Expected to Surpass Projections

With these additional flights, Tulum International Airport is expected to exceed its original forecast of 700,000 passengers, now on track to welcome over 1.4 million travelers by the end of the year. This impressive growth cements Tulum as a premier travel hub in the Riviera Maya.
