Cancun, Q.R. — In 2022, the Cancun International Airport attracted nearly half of the country’s international air travelers. According to Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of the Ministry of Tourism, more than 20,6 million international tourists arrived in Mexico via air last year.
He reported that this figure is 46,3 percent higher than 2021 and 8.3 percent higher than the number of international air passengers in 2019.
Between January and December of 2022, the United States, Canada, and Colombia accounted for the majority of international arrivals.
Cancun International, Mexico City International (AICM), and Los Cabos received the largest number of international tourists in 2022, according to the Secretary of Tourism.
More than 15,8 million international air passengers landed at the three airports. Over 9.4 million passengers traveled through Cancun International, a 47.7 percent increase from the previous year. A little more than 4,2 million passengers arrived at the AICM and 2,1 million at Los Cabos.
In 2022, more than 107 million passengers flew on domestic and international flights in Mexico.
