Next January will be the first bidding and in March will begin the works of the Mayan Train, informed today the Federal Government after the indigenous communities and the general population of the states where it will pass supported mostly this project.

In the morning press conference of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, were presented the results of the popular consultations held over the weekend, as well as the construction plan of the work, which will have a budget of 120 billion pesos.

“We will start the first tender in the first week of January, in areas where there is already a road, and by the end of March or early April will be beginning the works,” said Rogelio Jiménez Pons, director of the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur).

The official in charge of the work of the Mayan Train added that all construction companies wishing to participate in the project will be summoned to join the tourist destinations of Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo.

For his part, President Lopez Obrador said that already has the budget for the train, which will be about 120 billion pesos, and welcomed the approval received by the project in the consultations.

Adelfo Regino Montes, director of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), explained that during November and December 30 consultative assemblies were held with indigenous communities near the train route to consult 1,400 Mayan, Chol, Tzotzil and Tzental communities.

“There was general consensus, unanimous, for the implementation of the project to develop the Mayan Train,” said Regino Montes, who added that several follow-up tables were agreed to comply with agreements.

In Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, 268 tables were installed, where no incidents were recorded, according to the Ministry of the Interior. López Obrador announced that the results of both consultations will be published in detail on the Internet and social networks.
