Bacalar, Q.R. — Construction of a new hotel in Bacalar is set to begin early next month. Mayor José Alfredo Contreras Méndez announced that Marriott Hotels will break ground on their latest project in early March.

The boutique hotel, to be built near Cenote Azul, will feature 60 luxury rooms. Contreras Méndez noted that the project will generate local employment, requiring at least 500 construction workers.

The mayor confirmed the construction timeline after meeting with Marriott Hotels executives in Madrid last month. During their discussions at the International Tourism Fair, the company reaffirmed its commitment to the March start date.

Originally announced in November 2024, the hotel will not operate as an all-inclusive resort. Once construction begins, the project is expected to be completed within two years.
