WestJet, a leading Canadian airline, is set to strengthen the link between Canada and Tulum with new direct flights, enhancing the destination’s appeal and potential real estate opportunities. Starting in November 2024, WestJet will offer flights connecting Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario directly to Tulum’s new international airport.

New Direct Flights and Their Impact on Real Estate in Tulum

Beginning November 9, 2024, WestJet will launch direct flights to Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport. These include a weekly flight from Calgary and three weekly flights from Toronto, providing convenient access for Canadian travelers. The service will continue until April 27, 2025.

These new routes make WestJet the second Canadian airline to offer flights to Tulum, following Air Canada’s introduction of flights in May.

Why Canadian Travelers Are Eyeing Tulum Real Estate

Jorge Molina Pérez, Director of Tulum’s Tourism and Economy Department, believes that these new flights will significantly boost Tulum’s reputation as a premier beach destination with rich Maya cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of promoting Tulum to Canadian, U.S., and European travelers who seek sun-soaked vacations in a culturally vibrant setting.

“Canada and Toronto are key markets with affluent travelers who regularly seek out warm destinations to escape their cold winters,” said Molina Pérez. “Welcoming WestJet’s 737 airliners to Tulum is a great opportunity for us to better understand and cater to Canadian visitors, ensuring they have an unforgettable experience.”

Real Estate Opportunities in Tulum

The increased connectivity between Canada and Tulum is expected to drive more interest in Tulum’s real estate market. As more Canadian tourists discover the charm of Tulum, the demand for vacation homes and investment properties is likely to rise. WestJet Vacations is also offering attractive flight and accommodation packages at 35 major hotels near the airport, further enhancing Tulum’s appeal.

WestJet’s Expanded Services

In addition to the new Tulum routes, WestJet is expanding its services to other popular destinations. Starting November 9, 2024, the airline will introduce a weekly direct flight from Winnipeg to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. Another new route will connect Kelowna, British Columbia, to Mazatlán, Mexico, with weekly flights starting December 13, 2024, and continuing through April 18, 2025.
