Inspired by traditional Mayan architecture and geometric patterns, Aidia Studio has released their first design of the Tulum rail station, part of the 1,525-kilometer Tren Maya that will connect the entire Yucatan Peninsula, and provide an alternative mode of transportation to locals and tourists alike.
The station is oval-shaped, sloping down to the sides, with its highest point at the center that will allow for second-story shops. The lattice pattern provides a great balance between natural light and shade, and allows for airflow, all of which help counter the tropical weather that is common in Tulum.
Construction on the Tren Maya began in January of this year, and daily movement throughout the Riviera Maya can be seen along Highway 307, which runs from Cancun south to the Belize border. Aidia Studio is a well-known architecture and design firm based in both Mexico City and London whose portfolio includes projects all across the globe.
