Tulum, Q.R. — The Tulum International Airport has received its first flight. On Tuesday, an Aeromexico flight from Mexico City landed at the Tulum airport for its first test flight.
Aeromexico’s B737 flight AM9455 registered as XA-AML made the successful test flight early Tuesday afternoon.
Aeromexico was one of the first commercial airlines to announce flights out of the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport of Tulum. The airport is scheduled for its official inauguration at 12:30 p.m. (local time) on December 1, 2023 by Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In a press statement, Aeromexico said “we are happy to announce that as of December 1, 2023 we will begin operations between the Mexico City International Airport and the new Tulum International Airport with 2 daily flights.
“In this way, we seek to provide more alternatives to national and international travelers who want to enjoy the beauty of this beautiful destination, in addition to everything that the south of the Riviera Maya offers.
“This new route will allow us to reinforce our offer and connectivity in the state of Quintana Roo, where we already provide the best service to our clients with flights to and from Cancún, Chetumal and Cozumel.”
On Friday, on inauguration day, Aeromexico will make its first passenger flight from Mexico City to Tulum. The flight is scheduled to leave the Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City at 11:55 a.m. and arrive in Tulum at 3:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama announced that the new Tulum Aiport will have its own Foreign Relations Office.
“It’s an office that we are we’re working on. Right now I have a meeting with General (Gustavo) Vallejo (in charge of the airport construction), but it will be a reality,” she said in a brief interview Tuesday while in Tulum.
