Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum city council reports that several projects in excess of 35 million pesos are being carried out throughout the municipality.
The general director of Public Works, Abimael Reyes Medel, explained that the drop in revenue generated a shortage of public resources, however, mayor Victor Mas Tah was able to generate savings and manage resources that have allowed for the start of seven construction projects.
Reyes Medel says the projects, which will cost approximately 35.9 million pesos, include two urban areas of the municipal capital, which he says, will provide greater security to citizens while improving the urban image of Tulum.
In terms of roads, he said that the agency is placing traffic lights on the busiest avenues with an investment of 5.9 million pesos.
In Chemuyil, work is underway to build a school canteen for the students of Matilde Montoya Lafragua elementary school, in which 1.5 million pesos in resources have been earmarked.
On Cobá Avenue near the entrance to Tulum, the road is being expanded and remodeled at a cost of 7.9 million pesos. “The idea is for this tourist site to have a new appearance and better services,” said the public works director.
He also added that in the Villas Tulum neighborhood, several streets were very deteriorated, which is why they are investing 4.9 million pesos for repaving.
Regarding wastewater management, he says that the city council is promoting the construction of the second phase of drainage of the Xul Ká neighborhood which, with other government orders, will cost just over 8.7 million pesos.
