The promotional work being done is also in response to increasing tourism to destinations such as Mahahual, Bacalar and Chetumal. These cities are part of the Mexican Caribbean and are revered for their natural beauty. The increase in flight passengers has positively impacted hotel occupancy in these towns.

With the upcoming improvements, more economic benefit is expected to come to the towns of Mahahual, Bacalar and Chetumal.
